Ways To Help Someone Get Back On Their Feet

I understand the feelings people have towards giving cash to the homeless. I used to feel the same way. However, there are practical items besides cash which will help me survive and get back into steady employment as soon as humanly possible.

Examples include:

    • Prepaid gas cards from any major gas station
    • Laundry services or facilities; many laundromats offer drop-off service
    • Prepaid cards for food; stores such as Publix and Sweetbay, sell them
    • $50 MetroPCS prepaid service card - Best Buy SKU#: 8923285

If you want to buy food, think cheap foods that are already prepared, can be eaten cold or raw and don’t require special storage such as refrigeration or freezing.

Examples include:

  • Canned beans - excellent source of fiber and cheap protein.
  • Pantry vegetables such as broccoli, carrots or tomatoes.
  • Canned vegetables such as peas & carrots, asparagus, whole tomatoes, etc.
  • Canned soups, although the soups in boxes are generally cheaper per oz
  • Nuts, trail mixes (without candy/M&Ms), dried fruits

HELLO I AM HOMELESS

That does not mean that I am an alcoholic, drug abuser, mentally ill or handicapped. It means that I do not have a place of my own to sleep at night, cook meals or shower after work. Yes, I do work three 8 hour shifts per week at a retail store. They are trying to help with more hours. However, I still do not make enough to afford housing.

Please email me through this site about available rooms, job leads, to offer assistance or share your story of how you had to deal with something similar.
